A #tossbackTuesday post…from 2013….
Do you ever wonder what happened to the world? Maybe the world itself is okay. It’s just some of the people in it that I wonder about.
I guess one reason the place we call home seems so much more out of whack than it was twenty or even thirty years ago is the creation of social media. Whereas years ago if someone said something offensive, it took a day or two, maybe even a week to hit the papers. Now it’s instant. You may as well just get on a loudspeaker and announce it to the world because you’re going to go on Twitter and broadcast it anyway:
First of all, does anyone care if you’re going to Africa? Would anyone care if you did or did not get AIDS? Does anyone care if you’re white?
Until I read this I had no idea who Justine Sacco was. And I’m really glad I still don’t. I do, however, know she has lost her job over this senseless, unnecessary comment. Rightfully so. I wouldn’t want someone with that kind of attitude working for me either. Good luck, twit. Hope you stay in Africa. Maybe you can find a job there helping AIDS patients.
The other recent problem of the world is “Duck Dynasty”‘s Phil Robertson and the comments he made about homosexuals in a recent interview in GQ magazine. He likened homosexuals to “drunks” and “terrorists” and when asked about sin he stated, “Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there — bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men.” Yes, and I’m sure this God-fearing creepy-looking bearded wonder has never committed a sin in his life. On top of it he’s a hypocrite because then he went on to say, ““I myself am a product of the 60s; I centered my life around sex, drugs and rock and roll until I hit rock bottom and accepted Jesus as my Savior. My mission today is to go forth and tell people about why I follow Christ and also what the bible teaches, and part of that teaching is that women and men are meant to be together. However, I would never treat anyone with disrespect just because they are different from me. We are all created by the Almighty and like Him, I love all of humanity. We would all be better off if we loved God and loved each other.”
Well, Phil, since you’re such a religious man, then you should know about casting the first stone, shouldn’t you? Now I know why I never have and never will watch “Duck Dynasty”. Besides, I think facial hair, especially beards, are disgusting.
If it were possible to completely separate these two ignorant idiots from the rest of the world, we would be off to a good start at creating a much more peaceful place to live.
