It’s True. Life IS Like A Box of Chocolates

It’s True. Life IS Like A Box of Chocolates

It’s been twenty-five years since Tom Hanks forever ran into our hearts as Forrest Gump, the lovable simpleton from Greenbow, Alabama.

My first memories of “Forrest Gump” came from the numerous billboards I would see as I traveled to and from work.  “Gump Happens” and “Hanks Is Gump” they read.

I know it’s a movie starring Tom Hanks, I thought.  But what the hell is Gump?

I was on vacation in Florida when the movie was released and I saw clips of the film on the TV in my hotel room.  Everyone was talking about it.  When I saw a trailer depicting the scene where Forrest visits the White House and shows LBJ where he got shot, I knew I had to see the remainder of the film.

I had been a big Tom Hanks fan before “Forrest Gump” but his role as Forrest made me a fan for life.  To date Forrest Gump is my favorite Tom Hanks’ character.  Twenty-five years later this movie still resonates with me.  It’s easy to remember all the scenes.  All the supporting characters such as Lt. Dan, Bubba and of course, Jenny.  And the quotes are something to live by.

Here’s to another twenty-five years of “Forrest Gump”.

The Real Candidate

The Real Candidate

Twenty Democrats have spoken.  Each has had their initial chance to tell America why they feel they would make a better President than the SHITHOLE we have now.  Of course, considering the current “president”, these twenty people didn’t have to really say much to prove themselves.  A flea on a rat would make a better “president” than SHITHOLE.

On a more serious note, I want to tell you who I”m voting for.  I’m voting for the REAL candidate.  I’m done with fake, because that’s what we have now.  By real I mean the person, man or woman, who does not try to impress me by speaking Spanish, French, Dutch or any other language than English.  Because I’m not impressed.  The fact you can speak another language is great.  But tell me, other than the fact you can speak another language and SHITHOLE can’t, how is speaking another language going to make you the kind of President America needs?

By real I mean the person, man or woman, young or old, who understands what Americans go through in their everyday lives.  All Americans.  Rich, poor, middle-class, homeless, immigrant, undocumented.  Working.  Unemployed.  Mothers.  Fathers.  Grandparents.  I want the real candidate to grasp exactly how Americans live.  How many struggle to make ends meet.  How a working family of two is barely getting by and is not saving a cent.

By real I mean the person, man or woman, black, white, Latino, straight, gay, bi, trans, whatever, who knows what Americans want in healthcare, education, gun control, climate control, immigration and basic human rights.  I want the REAL candidate to not only KNOW what Americans want, I want them to UNDERSTAND why they want it.

I don’t care what race you are,  how old you are, what sex you are, what your sexual orientation is, what religion you are, what school you went to, how many languages you speak, if you were in the military, if you play piano, the oboe or the trombone, if you are married, have kids, have pets and vacation in Europe.  None of that means anything to me if you aren’t at first REAL.

Disgusting Hellholes

Disgusting Hellholes

It seems that the latest thing is to go on social media and argue with others over what to call the places where innocent children are being held captive.

Some say to call the places where they are “concentration camps”.  Others refer to them as “intermittent camps” or “detention camps” or “detention centers”.  I think there’s really only one phrase we can use in reference to these places where innocent lives are being destroyed:  disgusting hellholes.

It doesn’t matter what the fuck you call these horrible places.  What you call them isn’t going to change the fact these children are being treated like garbage, where they aren’t being given enough food to eat, have no decent place to lay their heads at night, have no caring adult to comfort them, for fuck’s sake, they don’t even have a bar of soap or a toothbrush.  Their human rights are being violated daily.  These are crimes committed by the United States government that they will be forced to face and will pay for dearly.

In essence the government of the United States kidnapped children and now that they have them, they don’t want to care for them.  It has become the objective of the United States government to just kill their captives.  Because that’s what they’re doing.  Many have died already and more will die until these disgusting hellholes are shut down.

Like the “administration” behind the running of these disgusting hellholes should be.

Ignorance Is The Tragedy

Ignorance Is The Tragedy

Unfortunately ignorance reared its ugly head at New Bedford’s Normandin Middle School when an autistic sixth grader was sent home with a disrespectful “superlative award” for “Most Likely to Get Lost in a Crowd”.  “Get lost in a crowd” in what way?  To not stand out?  To not find his way?  Even the student was confused, telling his mother he wasn’t sure why he received the award because he was never lost in school.

The five teachers that signed their names to this “award” should be ashamed.  To even consider themselves “teachers” is a stretch.  The principal isn’t much better.  Although an apology was made, the family was told that because the teachers had left for summer vacation, there was nothing that could be done.  Which is bullshit.  The teachers, and the principal, should be reprimanded for their actions.

The ones who really get lost in a crowd are the ones too ignorant and arrogant to learn about autism.  They are the ones who cannot accept others for who they are.  They are the ones who don’t deserve to be in the presence of a person with autism.

Because a person with autism will tell you the way it is, whether you like it or not.  Unlike so many others in this world, they are extremely passionate about their interests.  They are the most honest people you’ll meet, the most creative, they appreciate the simple things in life and most of all, they don’t judge others.

Unlike the teachers and principal at Normandin Middle School.
